Special Projects Dropping First Honda Challenge Round

The decision to drop the first round of the Honda Challenge series has been made by the Team manager and lead driver, Jeff ( Kiwi)Owen.

After a hectic two months of working every spare hour on the construction of the team’s three H1 Type R Integra’s It was decided that in spite of the magnificent effort put in by the whole team that there was just not enough time to get the cars ready before the opening round of the Honda Challenge series at California Speedway this Saturday. At a 6.30 am breakfast meeting at Denny’s after yet another all night thrash installing two brand new engines which were only received from the engine builders the previous afternoon, the sleepy team members reluctantly conceded that they would not be doing the team, the cars, or the sponsors any justice if they turned up at the first event untested and unprepared to dominate the series as has always been their intention.

However, the Team will be hosting an open day at Special Projects Motor Sports Race Shop at 1638 Clementine Street. Anaheim, CA 92802 on Sunday March 14th. Where there will be an unveiling of the re built # 66 JDM Integra driven by Kiwi. As well as the brand new # 65 car which is being constructed, and will be driven by Sandor (Shawn) Bota. As well as Shawn’s former H1 Integra # 64 which is being re constructed and will be driven by John McNulty?

Representatives of some of the team’s sponsors, the three drivers and the whole crew will be on hand to discuss the cars, racing, and to answer any questions. Special Projects Motor Sports wish to thank all of our team members for their enthusiasm and dedication to making this team a force to be reckoned with. We owe a special thanks to Shawn Bota for his UN tiring devotion to the construction of what will undoubtedly be one of the best prepared Honda Challenge touring cars in 2004. Shawn is certainly earning his drive.

At least two of the team’s cars will be undergoing testing over the next couple of weeks in preparation for the next Honda Challenge race at Buttonwillow on April 3rd.

The Special Projects Motor Sports team would like to thank (Team owner) Mr. Don Wilson. If it wasn’t for Don’s backing and enthusiasm, none of this would be possible.

And a special thanks to all of our sponsors.

Good luck to everyone in 2004

I'm sure that this was a big disappointment to the whole team but hang in there and sort everything out for the next round.

I just finished my H1 Civic with K20A engine last night after 3 very intense weeks of work, so I know the feeling. Total time to perform the K20A swap was from the day after the last race of 2003 (Nov 17) to the day before the first race of 2004.

PS: Stock engines are the way to go...
