Jeff F
Maybe I'm missing something here, but what is the big deal about the steering wheel lock? Since it was a "recommended" item, I had planned on doing it on my car (Fox Mustang). While I had the column out and apart for some other work, I took a detailed look at the mechansim and it's damn near foolproof. Once the key is past the lock postion, a pin on a heavy spring comes down and blocks out the locking pin. You have to turn the key to off, push the button on the bottom of the column, and turn it one more notch back to allow it to lock.
swhiteh3
Maybe I'm wrong, but it was always my impression that some sanctioning bodies required the steering wheel lock to be removed simply because it made it easier to flat-tow the car back to the paddock, especially if the driver might have been removed in another safety vehicle and a corner worker had to steer the car when it was being flat-towed.
