Markus
Darn it...I was hoping for a good shootout in TTE at the Nationals, but if Shawn's driving skills are similar to his reading comprehension it should be pretty easy..... - Markus
FastSaleen
John, with 32 cars already signed up for TT in August, are we going to finally get our own run group? Max cars at 25 per mile would be 56, so there is only room for 24 more cars - and that would be crowded on the track if the group is maxed out. John Graber
There's a highly top secret "max" number for Mid Ohio. Don't forget the HPDE4 guys as well. John

FastSaleen
There's a highly top secret "max" number for Mid Ohio. Don't forget the HPDE4 guys as well. John In case you've forgotten, I've worked at Mid-Ohio for 12 years. I know the so-called 'secret' max number. The reality is that the 'secret' number comes from a percentage over and above the supposed 'real' max number. The 'real' max number is 56. The percentage allows for additional cars - made obvious by the fact that the Grand-Am Cup race had 72 cars starting the race.
Red Tornado
it means gridding by times and a smart start is critical to geeting at least 2-3 laps in before traffic.
FastSaleen
Yeah, it would seem that way. We have been creating 3 grid lines at most events - fast cars, middle cars, slower cars - and it has seemed to work.
National Staff Greg G. Posted July 31, 2006 National Staff Share Posted July 31, 2006 Gridding by actual times (as opposed to three lines) makes a huge difference.

racerjon1
I will have to put in a vote for gridding by times as well.. If you are a fast car (say top 3) and end up behind a couple of slightly slower cars, by the time you get by them, lapping has started.. (or the last few cars are coming off pit road) Jon K

racerjon1
Actually I think we all have the same idea.. to line up by time At Autobahn I had closing speeds of 70mph in some cases.. When I would catch people on their "warm-up" lap, I am sure it was more. I was just trying to think about safety, didn't mean to try to dictate procedure. GAC
There is NO reason not to grid by times. Greg has made it work in SoCal with great results. Just do it (pretty please); it works. If you're worried about details, ask Greg how he handles them. He has it figured out.
